Introduction
What’s Internet Marketing Worth Today?
Take a look at the
underlying numbers. According to Nielsen/NetRatings there are 220 million Internet
users worldwide and about half are in the U.S. These people are performing 400
million searches using search engines and another 150 million searches in the
top directories. Add to these figures the hundreds of specialized search engines
used at retail bookstores, research sites, finance and investment portals, news
and entertainment sites, and enterprise search engines.
People are spending
an increasing amount of time on search engines. It’s almost as though, that
as search engine results improve, people are more willing and eager to use them.
Google, the top search engine sees an average user spend 24 minutes searching
per day. Given how little time people have today, the fact they’re spending
30 minutes searching is significant. Either these searchers are having trouble
finding what they want or they are looking for specific information. What if they
had reliable search results every time that helped them get the exact information
they were looking for? What effect would this successful searching have on the
economy, and in particular, companies with products and services to sell?
How about the
money numbers overall? The worldwide B2B Internet market is estimated at $US 2
Trillion in 2002 and will grow substantially to 3.5 Trillion in 2003 and to over
6 trillion in 2005. The consumer market is much smaller but is expected to grow
strongly, particularly in Europe and Asia.
